About me

I am a dedicated psychodynamic therapist registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

I have particular interest in and experience working with anxiety, depression, loss, sexual trauma, and complex trauma (usually resulting from ongoing traumatic experiences in childhood and/or adolescence including abuse, neglect, violence, abandonment, discrimination, and war).

Some of the issues I help with include:

  • Shame, guilt, loneliness, isolation, exclusion, rejection, worthlessness

  • Difficulties in building and maintaining healthy relationships with others

  • Use of coping strategies such as alcohol and drugs, self-harm, over- or under-eating, overworking, perfectionism

My approach

I use a psychodynamic approach which works to increase insight into how your current feelings and perspectives are shaped by your past experiences. During psychodynamic therapy you may reflect on ideas you have about yourself and others. You may also think about patterns of behaviours or relationships which recur in your life and begin to recognise the links between them. Through having a fuller understanding of your experiences and how you came to be who you are, meaningful and lasting change can come about.

My goal is to create a warm and trustworthy space where you can explore the challenges you’re facing and gain deeper self-awareness. I believe that the only way to do this is to work to understand you as a whole person. This is why I usually work on a long-term basis as it allows many different aspects of your life to unfold over time which can then be explored in more depth.

Experience

Before working privately, I worked in the NHS and the charity sector, where I provided compassionate and reliable listening support to individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts and feelings to talk openly about their struggles without being judged. I also supervised a team of listening volunteers and trained volunteers to become supervisors.

Qualifications

I studied MSc Gender, with focus areas in psychoanalysis, critical race theory and post/coloniality (London School of Economics), followed by training in:

  • Psychotherapy & Counselling (Foundation Certificate)

  • Psychodynamic Counselling & Psychotherapy (Postgraduate Certificate)

  • MSc Psychodynamic Counselling & Psychotherapy (University of London)
